Who knew so much history was hiding right beneath our feet? The crew from Quarter Hoarders recently brought their metal detectors to Historic Peachfield, and boy, did they strike historical gold!
Coins dating back to the 1600s, engraved silver spoons, pocket watches, candle snuffers, horseshoes, candleholders, and all sorts of objects from everyday colonial farm life came popping out of the ground. Some of the real standouts? A 1699 King William halfpenny, a 1787 New Jersey copper coin with a serpent’s head, a King George I Hibernia coin, a 1911 Barber dime, and even a late 19th century New Jersey National Guard uniform button!
These are more than just old odds and ends. They’re tangible pieces of Peachfield’s past, hidden underground for generations and finally seeing the light of day again. The finds will be professionally evaluated, cleaned, and preserved, with plans to share them with the public.
